This week, a federal investigation into a New Jersey Amazon warehouse cleared the company of any health and safety violations regarding the death of an employee over the summer.
Despite concerns being raised about the working conditions of the warehouse, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration concluded that the employee’s death was not related to how the warehouse was being managed.
The employee in question, Rafael Mota Frias, died during Amazon’s 2022 Prime Day promotion. Amazon’s own investigations into the incident determined that his death was caused by an underlying health condition, and didn’t mention the fact that the Amazon fulfillment center in which he worked was overheated during the summer months.
Jordan Flowers, one of the co-founders of the Amazon Labor Union (ALU), confirmed reports from other employees of the New Jersey fulfillment center who claimed that the warehouse was inadequately cooled during the hot season. Despite the working conditions (and the fact that Amazon installed air conditioning units after Mota Frias’ death), Amazon has been cleared of wrongdoing.
It’s important to remember what warrants a workers’ compensation claim, and it’s important to remember your rights as an employee. Fortunately, you can contact New Jersey work injury lawyers from Rispoli & Borneo P.C. to get the justice you deserve.
Have You Been Injured at Work?
Whether you’re working in an Amazon warehouse or an accounting firm, you deserve to be compensated if you were hurt on the job. This recent Amazon case is an important reminder of why you need to report your injuries, and why you need to get in touch with a workers’ comp lawyer who can fight on your behalf.
Workers’ compensation is an important lifeline for employees who’ve been hurt on the job. Without it, you could find yourself in a desperate financial situation while you try to recover enough to clock back in. Unfortunately, workers’ compensation isn’t quite the “free money” many people make it out to be.
When you file for workers’ comp, you have to report your injuries and balance tons of paperwork, doctors’ visits, and your own recovery, all at the same time. It’s important to get in touch with a lawyer who can handle the paperwork and the administrative end of your claim so you can focus on getting better.
